The sewer installation on 31st Street was successfully completed without any traffic incidents. The steel plates that were in place have been removed just in time for the Mexican Independence Day Parade in Little Village. The trench that was restored with concrete will be milled and resurfaced with asphalt in October, ensuring a smooth finish. Throughout the process, we will maintain safe and continuous traffic flow. Additionally, the sewer work within the site for stormwater control is nearing completion. Existing sewer main connections in the site needed to be vacuumed and cleaned for proper drainage.
The crews have been diligently working on excavation, breaking concrete, and hauling soils off the property. To date, approximately 44,000 tons of soil have been removed. We are now placing clean fill across the 11 acres as part of the phase 1 environmental remediation work. During the work, two abandoned underground storage tanks (USTs) were discovered. These tanks have been properly removed under the supervision of a health inspector, with no incidents occurring. Our crews continue to prioritize dust control, clean fill placement, and air quality monitoring throughout the course of the work.
We are pleased to report that the project remains on schedule. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
